Mother’s Day in the UK was on the 31st of March, an occasion that’s come to pass already. For Meghan Markle, however, sticking true to her American roots, the Duchess’s first American Mother’s Day was this Sunday on the 12th of May. While she got her baby boy just in time to celebrate her first Mother’s day this year, we got a look at some royal baby feet!
On Sunday, the 37 year old and new mum, Meghan Markle, and her husband, 34-year-old His Royal Highness Prince Harry, celebrated the American Mother’s Day holiday as the Duchess’s first celebration of motherhood now that they have their few days old baby boy and 7th in line to the throne. The two celebrated the occasion by sharing a new (and first official) photograph of their royal baby boy, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, and also appeared to pay tribute to Harry’s late mother Princess Diana.

Paying tribute to all mothers today – past, present, mothers-to-be, and those lost but forever remembered. We honor and celebrate each and every one of you. Today is Mother’s Day in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Kenya, Japan, and several countries across Europe. This is the first Mother’s Day for The Duchess of Sussex. The photograph was shared on the couple’s official Instagram page which represents the social media and affairs of the Sussexes. It was shared around 9:30 a.m. PT / 1:30 p.m. GMT, and in the photograph, only Archie’s feet were shown as being held by his mother, Meghan Markle. She’s holding baby Archie atop a bed of small purple Forget-Me-Nots and both are clad in neutral colors. A very aesthetic shot.
Archie is still wrapped in the ivory baby shawl he was first shown in earlier this week at the Photo Op held by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle just two days after he was born, before showing him to the Queen and announcing his name. This photograph also seems to be a tribute to Prince Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana, who was known to adore Froget-Me-Not flowers.
“Paying tribute to all mothers today – past, present, mothers-to-be, and those lost but forever remembered,” the caption states. “We honor and celebrate each and every one of you. Today is Mother’s Day in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Kenya, Japan, and several countries across Europe. This is the first Mother’s Day for The Duchess of Sussex. Quote from [Nayyirah Waheed’s 2013 poem] ‘lands’: my mother was my first country; the first place i ever lived.”
This photo is something of the sort of what we see now on social media from celebrity couples and other posting individuals. It’s not of the kind that has been shared by Royals in the past. It is informal, aesthetic, captures a feeling, and is very Social Media-esque. It’s not a traditional portrait that we’d normally expect to have shared from the Royal Family. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been doing things there way since before the two tied the knot, and we’re not surprised that they’ve celebrated this occasion in their own fashion as well.
It’s speculated that Meghan Markle, who’s been an avid blogger and Instagrammer in her celebrity days, is the one who powers the couple’s official Sussex Instagram account as well. The style of the photo shared is nothing short of the kind we were used to seeing on Meghan Markle’s own private Instagram account as well.
