Country singer-songwriter Granger Smith and wife Amber lost their youngest son, River Smith, in a tragic accident. The singer shared the devastating news on Twitter on 6th June.

Granger Smith married his wife, Amber Bartlett, on 11 February 2010. The two met on Facebook when Smith approached her to play the role of his girlfriend in his upcoming music video “Don’t listen to the radio”.

According to Smith, he posted an add on craigslist saying, “Country singer looking for a girlfriend for music video role”. The meetings were set in a conference room where girls would come, talk for a few seconds and take a picture with the singer. After a hectic process, finally a girl was selected, however, Smith felt that something wasn’t right. That night he logged into his Facebook and saw Amber in the ‘’people you may know” section. He felt that she was the right one and messaged her asking about the role. Luckily she agreed and only a few months later, they started dating.

The couple has been married for 9 years now and had 3 children, a daughter named London and two sons, Lincoln Monarch Smith and River Kelly Smith. The children are 7, 5 and 3 respectively. Their youngest son, River, was born on 16 May 2016 and was a little bundle of joy. However, tragedy struck when the happy family lost 3-year-old River to a tragic accident.

The parents shared the devastating news on social media, however, details of the accident haven’t been released yet.

Granger posted a picture of him embracing river, wearing matching shirts and smiling while announcing the news. He said, “I have to deliver unthinkable news. We’ve lost our youngest son, River Kelly Smith. Following a tragic accident, and despite doctor’s best efforts, he was unable to be revived. Amber and I made the decision to say our last goodbyes and donate his organs so that other children will be given a second chance at life. Our family is devastated and heartbroken, but we take solace in knowing he is with his Heavenly Father. Riv was special. Everyone that met him knew that immediately. The joy he brought to our lives cannot be expressed and his light will be forever in our hearts. If there are words to say more, I cannot find them in this moment. Love the ones close to you. There has never been a more difficult moment for us than this.”

The doctors, nurses and staff have been incredible.

The parents have decided to donate young River’s organs so their son can have another chance at life. They have also stated that instead of flowers or gifts, people should send donations to Dell Children’s Medical Centre in River’s name. The staff was incredible and really supportive throughout.

Our heart goes out to both Granger and Amber for their loss. Many condolences to the Smith’s family.
