The Keeping Up With The Kardashians reality star drastically shifted her focus from luxury products to ones that truly play an integral role in making different kinds of people feel beautiful and confident at all times. Kim Kardashian‘s latest release has been shapewear, another practical and useful product the world could use and praise her for. Instead of calling it shapewear, the star as opted to go with the title “Solutionwear” as that’s the purpose it’s made to serve. The product ranges in sizes from XXS to 4XL and comes in 9 different skin shades. On the topic of the line, Kim said on Twitter:

Finally, I can share with you guys this project that I have been developing for the last year. I’ve been passionate about this for 15 years. Kimono is my take on shapewear and solutions for women that actually work. I would always cut up my shapewear to make my own styles, and there have also been so many times I couldn’t find a shapeware color that blended with my skin tone so we needed a solution for all of this.”

Kim received a lot of backlash for calling her solution wear “Kimono,” that being dubbed as cultural misappropriation. One user took to Twitter to say:

To this, Kim responded saying:

I understand and have deep respect for the significance of the kimono in Japanese culture and have no plans to design or release any garments that would in any way resemble or dishonor the traditional garment

Kim Kardashian, insisted, that even though she chose to trademark that name for her line, it does not “preclude or restrict anyone, in this instance, from making kimonos or using the word kimono in reference to the traditional garment.” In addition to that, she argues that the intent of her clothing line is never to “design or release any garments that would in any way resemble or dishonor the traditional garment.”

That said, she has now come out with a statement saying:

Being an entrepreneur and my own boss has been one of the most rewarding challenges I’ve been blessed with in my life. What’s made it possible for me after all of these years has been the direct line of communication with my fans and the public. I am always listening, learning and growing – I so appreciate the passion and varied perspectives that people bring to me. When I announced the name of my shapewear line, I did so with the best intentions in mind. My brands and products are built with inclusivity and diversity at their core and after careful thought and consideration, I will be launching my Solutionwear brand under a new name. I will be in touch soon. Thank you for your understanding and support.”
