Mindy Kaling is always a beautiful source of inspiration for us to love ourselves and motivation for us to always improve ourselves to be our best possible versions. The light hearted and loving TV star has done none other than remind us of that yet again by making a point to show that everyone’s body is different and that you don’t need to adhere to the “standard” size zero to walk around in a bikini. Wear what you want and be happy doing it because that’s all that matters.
40-year-old, Mindy Kaling took to Instagram on Friday to remind us of this with a couple shots of her own self sporting some feel good bikinis. She was seen sporting a pair by Tory Burch and Flagpole amidst her lay back and relax holiday to Hawaii.
She captioned the post:
IDK who needs to hear this but WEAR A BIKINI IF YOU WANT TO WEAR A BIKINI. You don’t have to be a size 0.”

IDK who needs to hear this but… 🗣 WEAR A BIKINI IF YOU WANT TO WEAR A BIKINI. You don’t have to be a size 0. Swipe for my storytime and have a great summer ❤️ (edited to say: this accidentally sounds like an ad but it’s not- but I mean, if you want to buy ANY high waisted bikini and wear it, tag a pic so I can comment)!
She went on to explain how this thought is championed in Hawaii and how it’s inspiring for everyone to know.
What I was struck about Hawaii is that everyone wears bikinis. It does not matter what your body type is. You rock a bikini because you’re in Hawaii. There’s so much body positivity there, that I, who is always really shy about my body, would wear bikinis.”
This isn’t the first time Mindy Kaling has been a source of positivity for all of us. In her book Why Not Me published in 2015, the star wrote the following:
Far too many women are much more hurt by being called fat or ugly than they are by being called not smart, or not a leader. If someone told me that I was stupid or that I wasn’t a leader, or that I wasn’t witty or quick or perceptive, I’d be devastated. If someone told me that I had a gross body, I’d say, ‘Well, it’s bringing me a lot of happiness.’ Like, I’m having a fine time of it. Having my priorities aligned like that has helped me have a happier life, I think.”
