Cheddar, Captain Holt’s beloved four-legged partner, passed away on 12 July 2019. The news was announced by his owner in a heartfelt Instagram post later that day.
Cheddar, real name Stewart, was a major part of the hit sitcom, Brooklyn Nine Nine. Although, the character was played by several different corgis, Stewart held his role the longest. He was a key part of the 99th precinct, helping in the annual Halloween heists and was also the ring bearer at Jake and Amy’s wedding.
As per Captain Holt, Cheddar was “no basic bitch” and he certainly proved that way by becoming an integral part of the show. However, he did manage to pass out from eating the Nakatomi Plaza cake from Jake and Amy’s wedding. Lol!
Unfortunately, Holt’s “cute secret weapon” passed away on July 12th. According to his owner, he was put to sleep after enjoying a day at the beach and crossed over to the other world peacefully in his arms. He was 13.
The news was announced to the world in a heart wrenching Instagram post. Stewart’s owner wrote, ‘’My precious boy Stewart crossed the rainbow bridge today”. He continued, “We went to the beach (his favourite place) where he frolicked in the surf and then enjoyed a picnic lunch of In & Out burgers. We relaxed in the sun and just enjoyed each other’s company. Our veterinarian met us there later and Stewart went to sleep peacefully in my arms while listening to the sounds of the ocean. He was a one in a million kind of dog, he was my supaah staah.”

E4 network, that airs Brooklyn Nine Nine in the United Kingdom, also honored the fallen soldier in a Twitter post. They wrote, “R.I.P Cheddar. You served the people of Brooklyn and the 99th Precinct with distinction. You’ll be in our thoughts and our hearts forever”.
