One of the legacies of the Kennedy family has now passed away due to an apparent drug overdose according to The New York Times. Robert F. Kennedy’s granddaughter Saoirse Kennedy Hill was found overdosed at the Kenney compound in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts on Thursday, August 1st. She was Robert F. Kennedy, Courtney Kennedy Hill’s only daughter.
At roughly 2:30 PM in the afternoon, local emergency personnel was found rushing to the scene after they had been called in to help with a cardiac arrest that Saoirse was facing. Saoirse Kennedy Hill was rushed to the nearest hospital where she was soon pronounced dead.
As the news broke out of the apparent overdose and passing away of Saoirse Kennedy Hill, her family reached out to the press to officially confirm the news, saying:
Our hearts are shattered by the loss of our beloved Saoirse. Her life was filled with hope, promise and love. She cared deeply about friends and family, especially her mother Courtney, her father Paul, her stepmother Stephanie, and her grandmother Ethel, who said, ‘The world is a little less beautiful today.'”
The latter portion of the above statement was a special tribute to Saoirse paid by her grandmother, Ethel Kennedy, wife to Robert F. Kennedy. The statement continued further, saying:
She lit up our lives with her love, her peals of laughter and her generous spirit. Saoirse was passionately moved by the causes of human rights and women’s empowerment and found great joy in volunteer work, working alongside indigenous communities to build schools in Mexico. We will love her and miss her forever.”
Saoirse was a Communications major at Boston College where she was an avid supporter of gun control laws. She was the president of the College Democrats organization and spoke up on the issue, saying of Robert F. Kennedy’s 1968 assassination and Uncle / Former US President John F. Kennedy’s assassination, that:
He and I are the product of gun violence, and we are damaged goods. When one person is killed by gun violence, the whole nation is degraded.”
This is a difficult time for the Kennedy family and all prayers are with them as they deal with this insurmountable loss.
