The newest season of Keeping Up With The Kardashians has premiered and their family is back with a bang. A lot has happened over the past few years that we’ll now get to see the insider details of. One of those things is a massive health scare that had us shook off our own seats.

On the premiere episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Kim Kardashian revealed that she tested positive for Lupus antibodies. On the episode, she got a call from her doctor who broke the news to her and the camera subsequently followed her walking off with tears in her eyes and a look of worry, but also saying aloud and reminding herself that lupus false positives are common and that this could be just that (hopefully).

For a lot of us, the question arises what lupus is exactly, so for those of you that don’t know, it’s a systemic autoimmune disease. What happens in this disease is that your body’s cells start to attack your own tissues and organs, damaging them severely in the process. It’s almost like your own cells are going at war and they’re trying to eat one another up. Lupus can affect many vital functions, processes, and organs in your body. These include your joints, liver, kidneys, heart, blood cells, skin, lungs, and even your brain. It’s a disease that at its own pace will damage your body severely from the inside out.

Clearly Lupus is not something to be taken lightly and that’s why the positive test put Kim Kardashian onto an emotional rollercoaster in which she then underwent several sets of follow up tests to cross check and verify whether the test was in fact true or a false positive. The doctor told her that it was likely a false positive. This discovery only happened after Kim noticed that she started to feel sluggish, lazy, exhausted, and that her hands swole up a lot. These symptoms could have been of something else too which is why the doctor advised to undergo further testing to crosscheck the positive lupus reading.

On the episode, Kim Kardashian said: “Autoimmune issues are really scary….When it’s really up in the air, you get in your head and you think of every worst possibility of what’s going to happen and how you’re going to live your life.” Had any of us been in her shoes, that would have probably been our exact thought process going through what she went through. Trying to think of how this will have a defining impact on the course of our life. How this one disease can shape the way that we live and go on to do things.

Kim Kardashian appeared on a morning show on the Today Show just after the Keeping Up With The Kardashians episode premiered and she revealed indirectly that the lupus scare was false (we think). She explained that her symptoms were very common and could have been a result of numerous bodily disruptions or issues. While she didn’t confirm anything about the lupus test scare, she did share that she is now taking medication for the treatment of her symptoms and that now everything is under control as she is on the meds.

It seems like we will have to tune into the second episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians after all to find out whether that really was a false positive scare or whether Kim Kardashian does in fact have Lupus and the medications that she’s taking now are only to suppress its bothersome symptoms. The next episode airs this week on E!
