The Emmy nominated animated special, ANGELA’S CHRISTMAS is now available on DVD and Digital Download in the U.S. The 30 minute film is an enactment of the famous children’s story by Pulitzer Prize winning author, Frank McCourt.
ANGELA’S CHRISTMAS is originally a 2017 Irish-Canadian animation film, directed by Damien O’ Connor, starring the Oscar Nominee, Ruth Negga, as Angela’s mother, and Lucy O’Connell as Angela. The plot is based on Frank McCourt’s only children’s story and is set in Limerick, Ireland in 1910.
The tale revolves around young Angela’s desire to make sure everyone has a great Christmas – feeling safe, warm and loved during the holidays. The 6-year-old notices a statue of baby Jesus lying around, while attending Christmas eve celebrations. Worried that the statue might be cold, she immediately runs home to warm it up.
The extraordinary film ended up getting its cast and production team nominated for a number of awards at the 46th Daytime Emmy Awards and 2018 Emile Awards.
Produced by a well-known animation studio, Brown Bag Films, and distributed by 9 Story Distribution International, the short movie is now available on DVD in-store at Walmart as well as online at Walmart, Amazon, Target, Best Buy and Barnes & Noble. It is also available to stream on Netflix, iTunes, Amazon and Google Play.
According to Ellen McCourt, “It was my husband Frank’s dream to see this delicate, little Christmas story transformed into a classic Christmas tale. With persistence and care, Brown Bag Films and 9 Story have made that dream a reality. He would be thrilled with Angela’s Christmas as is the entire extended McCourt family!”.
The Dove Seal approved film features an original song from two times Grammy award winner, Dolores O’Riordan – late singer of the popular Irish band, The Cranberries. The DVD release will also include a ‘Making of the documentary’ which includes interviews with Ellen and Malachy McCourt.
