The world is in a depressed state right now. Amid the pandemic and the ongoing recession, the killing of an African-American has only worsened the situation.
TUESDAY: A Minneapolis police officer caught undertaking a 46-year-old man, George Floyd. Footage leaked, where it can be seen that the police officer has mercilessly placed his kneee on the head of the African-American as he lays on the floor under a police mobile.
The leaked clips recorded by fellow bystanders showcase the man pleading for help, as he constantly says, “I can’t breath.” And it can clearly be seen that the man is on the brink of death itself.
The mayor of Minneapolis immediately responded to such a crisis and tweeted that the four offciers responsible shall be termined on immediate effect.
Notable celebrity, Robert Adamson had a rather disagreement with the mayor’s statement, as did many others.
The police’s actions cannot be justified in any case during this matter and the ongoing protest is a clear indication of that. Numerous celebrities have called out the officers and the flawed law we have in the United States.
Acclaimed director of the Netflix miniseries, When They See Us – Ava DuVarnay had the following to say:
“You deserved your breath, your dignity, your life. Not to die in the street, murdered by a white cop’s knee on your neck. You deserve our tears, our prayers, our rage, our action. We must act – for you – and for all of those were no cameras are present. We must.”
Even those who don’t have remotely anything to do with social movements have come out in support, rightfully so. James Charles donated to the foundation led by Floyd’s immediate family.
Fashion icon and our very own, Kim Kardashian showed remorse from her side by twetting in favour of justice for George Floyd.
Chance, a notorious yet gracious rapper also spoke for the oppressed at a rally in Chicago. Telling fellow protesters, “We’re not going to let this s— keep happening.”
Demo Lovato, an esteemed singer who made her big break after starring in Barney & Friends, has come a long way since. She hasn’t been hesitant with her political views and came through in support of Floyd and the atrocities committed against African-Americans in general.
“This is not okay. And it will not stop until everyone does their part. Especially white people,” the “Anyone” singer, 27, wrote. “I said it recently and I’ll say it again, do not let your discomfort surrounding social issues prevent you from speaking up for those IN DANGER. And reality is, until this STOPS COMPLETELY – THE BLACK COMMUNITY WILL CONTINUE TO LIVE IN DANGER.”
Naomi Campbell, a notable model came forward with her symphaties for the departed sould and likewise didn’t shy away from her viewpoints! Quoting on Twitter that:
“I don’t have the words. I’m sick and tired of this, tired of being sad about our people dying needlessly,” Campbell, 50, wrote. “Harassed and humiliated in these challenging times, I thought we could come to together, but it seems like this Coronavirus has bought out more racism in a major way.”
Many other countless celebrities showed their sympathies as well. The likes of Timothée Chalamet and Hasan Minhaj showed their grief by posting a story on Instagram Quoting, “Who will arrest the police?”
African-American celebrities were on the frontline to show their sympathies and calling out the state’s police for the atrocity and John Boyega expressed his similarly, enraged.
“Seems to be a never ending cycle. The murderers need to be charged severely. Even in the face of death this man was given zero empathy.”
It is indeed a sad incident and amid the pandemic, 2020 has surely been a notorious year. Currently protests are underway in Minneapolis, Minnesota. May justice be served to George Floyd and every African-American that’s fallen under the unjust law of this country. Black lives matter!
